A critical tunnel lot for the completion of the Terzo Valico dei Giovi, this project, carried out using the traditional excavation method, tackles difficult, squeezing ground in the presence of gas.

The difficult conditions and behaviour of the formations traversed required the modification and reinforcement of the primary supports installed at the face as well as the creation of an inverted arch, piers and cap in sequence at a very short distance from the face.

Controlling the deformations and prompt, quick intervention to ensure stabilisation and coating help prevent face instability and collapses.

In order to create this work, it was necessary to develop technology and deploy an impressive fleet of explosion-proof vehicles in the field.

The critical geological conditions and the almost continuous presence of gas at the face require very stringent safety procedures.
