Terzo Valico dei Giovi – Floods, geological difficulties and the pandemic do not stop the two 9.8 m TBMs, which successfully complete this lot of the new railway line connecting Genoa to Milan.

These galleries were characterised by a series of events that hindered work, including:
– A flood that prevented regular construction site operation for months
– The underpass of a commercial building with the discovery of unmarked open boreholes connecting the pressurised excavation chamber with the surface
– The crossing of aquifers with high pressure and flow rates that opposed the advancement of the TBM
– The COVID epidemic that reduced site attendance and required the implementation of extraordinary measures to protect workers from infection.

Despite all that happened, SELI Overseas was able to overcome all difficulties and complete the excavation of the tunnels in time for the commissioning of the new railway line.
