Bergen Point Water Treatment System Outfall Tunnel | USA
Completed in: 2022

The project consisted of a submarine sewer tunnel in the State of New York built with cutting-edge techniques, such as ground freezing and use of Slurry TBM.
In particular, ground-freezing technology was the most widely used method to stabilize the soil during shaft excavation.
An innovative Slurry TBM was used for the excavation of the underwater tunnel, considering it was capable of advancing initially in pipe jacking mode and later by installing lining rings in prefabricated segments.
The sandy-clay nature of the formations required the installation of a sludge treatment plant enhanced with centrifuges capable of separating even the finest portions of the soil.
This project was awarded the prize for best infrastructure construction site in the US for 2021, in the category of projects under $500 million.
