Seli Overseas, in consortium with Webuild, to build the central section of Genoa’s Subport Tunnel. €803 million contract signed for Lot B between Autostrade per l’Italia and Webuild

– Contract signed at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport in the presence of Deputy Minister Rixi and Deputy Commissioner De Simone covers the project’s central section.

– The subport tunnel will complete the overhaul of Genoa’s transport network, enhancing port logistics and upgrading urban mobility.

Autostrade per l’Italia and Webuild formalized an €803 million contract at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport to deliver Lot B of Genoa’s Subport Tunnel (Tunnel Subportuale). Developed by the Aspi Group, the landmark scheme will reshape regional traffic flows and redefine the urban landscape across the port area and the Ligurian capital. The formal signing—following the project award to Webuild Group last July—took place in the presence of Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Edoardo Rixi, Deputy Reconstruction Commissioner for Genoa Carlo De Simone, Autostrade per l’Italia CEO Arrigo Giana, and Webuild CEO Pietro Salini.

The subport tunnel represents a pioneering project in Italy in terms of engineering complexity. Designed by Tecne, Autostrade per l’Italia’s engineering arm, the alignment spans approximately 4.2 kilometers, including more than 3 kilometers across twin, single-direction bored tubes. Engineered to bridge the city’s east and west sides, the project integrates high environmental and social sustainability benchmarks, acting as an urban regeneration catalyst that returns six hectares of public green space to the city through the new Lanterna Park.

Lot B will be delivered by a consortium led by Webuild (90%) alongside SELI Overseas (10%). The scope covers the critical central corridor running directly beneath the harbor basin and the dense urban fabric—the most technically challenging stretch of the venture, cementing its position among the most complex tunneling projects underway in Italy. Mechanized excavation will deploy a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) with a cutterhead diameter of roughly 16 meters, making it one of the largest ever launched in the country. The project is expected to create over 700 direct and supply-chain jobs.
