Terzo Valico dei Giovi – A model construction site in terms of technology, innovative solutions and respect for the environment to excavate with two 9.8 m TBMs in asbestos formations and in the presence of gas.

In this project, SELI Overseas was a pioneer in the development of special technologies, plants and procedures for excavating with TBMs in asbestos soils.

These technologies involved all the plants, from the TBM to the tunnel transport and ventilation systems as well as those for the external management, bagging and transport to landfill of the material contaminated by asbestos.

The presence of gas in the second part of this long tunnel then required the modification of the TBM in the tunnel to make it compatible with excavation in the presence of gas according to the regulations applicable in the country.
